Maldon Salt Solution
Adding just a little bit of salt is a great way to balance out a cocktail, changing the way the senses perceive bitter, sour and sweet flavours. Adding a little more makes for an interesting and savoury cocktail. By making a solution, you get reproducible results and ensure that all of the salt in your cocktail is dissolved.
You can substitute any kind of salt for Maldon, but we find that it has the best balance of saltiness and taste – keep in mind that other kinds of salt may require adjusting your ratios, as some will taste much saltier.
RECIPE
In a 75mL bottle add:
15g Maldon Salt
60mL boiling water
Shake, then shake some more, until the salt has dissolved. That’s it!
Best stored in a cool, dark place – or in the fridge if not using within a week. If your jar is sterilized and your water is boiled it should have a fairly long shelf life.
