No.11 Smoky Mandarin Sour

Laneway No.11 Gin Smoky Mandarin Sour cocktail

In this twist on a classic gin sour, we added charred mandarin orange for a sultry, smoky flavour that brings a grown-up vibe to this drink that otherwise tastes like an orange creamsicle. The clean, citrus flavours and light spice notes in our No.11 Gin really shine in this cocktail.

  • 1 oz Laneway No.11 Gin

  • 1 oz egg white

  • 1 oz maple syrup

  • 1 oz Charred Mandarin Juice*

  • ½ oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice

  • 1 inch piece of vanilla bean or 1/4 tsp vanilla

  • 4-5 dashes orange bitters (optional)

Combine all ingredients into a wide-mouth mason jar. (If using vanilla bean, slit the bean piece lengthwise and scrape the vanilla seeds into the jar, discarding the pod.) Blend for 60 seconds on high using an immersion blender to create a stiff, frothy foam. Add 1/4 cup of ice and blend until the ice is crushed. Strain through a fine mesh – to remove any ice or vanilla bean pieces – into a cocktail or sour glass.

*Charred Mandarin Juice: Slice the oranges in half and grill cut-side-down on a hot cast iron pan until the flesh is charred and juices are caramelized but not dried out (about 10-15 minutes). Juice using a citrus juicer once cooled.
